More setting up the story. Fun, ain't it?

Hell was a grand place, if you weren’t worried about dying. If you were, then it was, well...hell. But if only three creatures in hell could kill you, you didn’t worry much.
And if you were Mugendie, you became a bit arrogant.
Of course, even if he had wanted to, he would have had a hard time expressing this. After all, there were only mostly demons to talk to. And demons, as Mugendie knew, were stupid.
On this particular afternoon Mugendie was lounging on the roof of a daycare center. He was paying no mind to the giggling shrieks of young demons in the yard below. He was instead watching the moon waning its way across the sky. There weren't any demons around to kill anyway. That was one of the annoying "rules" the dark lord had created in relation to demons: only the adults were killable.
So he was a bit bored. But not for long.
"Hm?" Mugendie blinked, half-sitting up. Something pricked at the back of his head. It felt like a subtle shockwave. He recognized the feeling. It was a magic pulse--the energy of hell adjusting itself to incorporate something new.
But what? He tilted his head in the direction of the pulse's provenance.
By the time he realized that the magic surge had began in the Devil's District, a strange sound had met Mugendie's ears.
The ground was groaning.
The demons below had noticed it too and were now silent. Mugendie got to his feet. From his vantage point, the devil noticed a strange glow coming from the ground a few hundred meters away.
At the first red ooze from the ground he realized what was happening. Something had roused the ancient lava fields. The fields had hardened and grown cold nearly a million years before, when he was still young. Mugendie couldn't help but stare, nearly amazed, and wonder just what that something was.
The tiger had awakened.
